"Founder Award" Competition on Chinese Front Design aims at promoting the innovation of Chinese fronts and enriching the categories of Chinese fronts though combining the ancient Chinese front culture and modern design concept and techniques together. Since Jun,2001, three competitions has been held successfully. Comparing with the previous three ones, two new items are added to the 4th "FOUNDER AWARD" Competition on Chinese Front Design and Poster Design: In the category of Chinese Front Design, “Design on Calligraphy Chinese Front” is added, the purpose is to integrate the art of Ancient Chinese Calligraphy like "Yan, Liu, Ou,Zhao" etc into modern art, which will be also applicable for printing, website, television and mobile etc; In addition to that, Chinese Front oriented Poster Design is also added, the participants are requested to demonstrate the charm of Chinese Fronts through poster

 

After two years, the organizing committee totally received more than 2000 pieces of works from participants all over the country. The organizing committee of this competition invite the following experts to be the jury committee, who are Mr Akira Kobayashi, Front advisor of Linotypen; Professor Wangmin, head of design department from China Central Academy of Fine Arts, Mr Zhu Zhiwei, Director of front design from Beijing Founder Electronics Co.ltd(herein and after refers to as “Founder Electronics”), Professor Lv Shengzhong from China Central Academy of Fine Arts, Mr. Li Shaobo from China Central Academy of Fine Arts, Senior Professor Yu Bingnan, from Academy of Fine Arts of Tsinghua University, Famous Hongkong Designer Mr Jin Liqiang and famous American Chinese Artist Mr. Xubin. They will score the design works base on creativity of work, structure of front and standard of front pattern etc.

There are eight members of the jury committee for the 4th competition; the introduction of them is given as followings, which is arranged in an order of the front strokes of last name.

 

 

Akira Kobayashi

 

 

He, born in 1960, studied in The London College of Printing after his graduation from Wuzangye Art University. In the following he joined Linotype as front advisor on May,2001. Work experiences: 1983-1989, participated the front reconstruction for photo type system of Japan Sha-ken company; 1990-1997, participated the design of front 'Hiragino Mincho' 、 'Hiragino Gothic' for Fredom Workshop, which was introduced by Apple system later; 1993-1997, participated the match work between Latin and Japan for front Bank; 1998, achieved 2 Awards of the Best in the Front Competition of U&LC Magazine, No. 1 of text front team in the 3rd Linotype International Front Competition; ITC, ITC Japan garden, TIC silver moon, FF Clifford, and Lnotype Conrad were selected to attend the Competition of New York Front Club among 1998-2001.He takes the position of jury member of New York Front Advisor Club as well as the jury member of Tokyo front club of this year.

 

 

Wangmin

 

1977, He entered Zhejiang University of Fine Art (present The National Academy Of Fine Arts ) 1982-1983 he taught in The National Academy Of Fine Arts. 1984-1986, he has been a visiting fellow studying in Akademie der Bildenden Künste München and Berlin University of the Arts, 1986-1988 he studied in the art collogue of Yale university ,USA and got his master degree after his graduation. 1988 he set up his personal design workshop, which provide design for Adobe company. 1989-1997 he taught in the Graduate School of Art, Yale University, USA 1991-1998, he joined the world largest image processing company Adobe, taking the position of senior graphic designer, senior art advisor and design manager. he took the position of design manager of Square Two Design. Since 2003, he was appointed as the president of Design School of The National Academy Of Fine Arts, as well as professor and tutor of a Ph.D. student, dean of Olympic Art Center, China Central Academy of Fine Arts, Consultant in Image and identity for BOCOG (Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Committee).

Her works attended the important international exhibition and achieved awards many times. She has been invited to be the jury for design competitions many times. She also delivered academic lectures in China, China Hong Kong, American and Malaysia. In 1999 she was employed as guest professor by Fine Art College of Shanghai University. In 2001 he worked for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Bid Committee. She is also member of AGI, ADC, AIGA and TDC.

Born in 1955, he graduated from Calligraphy Art department, Capital Normal University, and has been engaging in the making of printing front for a long time. he loves calligraphy art, and devotes in the research and design combining by calligraphy art and printing art. His creation work “Beiwei Kaishu” and “Tiejin Lishu” achieved the Bronze prize in 1996 and Jury member prize in 1999 in the International Printing Front Competition held by Japan

At present he works for Beijing Founder Electronics Co ltd, engaging in the development of computer front and management of front production.

1999-2003 be appointed as deputy dean of design department, Fine Arts College of HuNan Normal University2002-2004, visited Danmark Design School as visiting scholar and teacher, sponsored by government 2004, joined Mervyn Kurlansky At present, he is engaged in the research of his PH.D subject in design school of China Central Academy of Fine Arts, also being a graphic design teacher, he is member of academy committee of Design and Research Center of Chinese Front Front, consultant of Founder Front database design, invited honor professor of Hunan Radio and Television Universtiy, member of NYTDC; His works winned more than 69 prizes including the 1st prize winned in the international bid of the imagine plan of Sappi Group, Grand prize wined in the 1st China Design Art Exhibition, Judge prize in Japan Morrisawa Front, and they are collected by many domestic and foreign museum. He directed special subject like “front city—research on Chinese City Front Front”, “Report on the development of the Front of Chinese School Book” and “Research on boldface”, as well as lead the development on the new boldface front.

Xubing

 

 

With ancestor origin located in Wenling, Zhejiang, he was born in Chonging, China, in 1955, and settled down in Beijing along with parents when he was two years old. In 1975 he was relocated to the countryside for two years during the Cultural Revolution. In 1996, he started to public his work and attended the exhibition, In 1977 he enrolled in the Central Academy of Fine Art in Beijing where he studied printmaking, and stayed in the Academy as a teacher after his graduation in 1981.He received an MFA from the Central Academy in 1987, and started to create his work “析世鉴天书”at the same year. The work, for the 1st time, is showed in “Xubing Print Exhibition”of 1988 in National Art Gallery of China, it attracted abroad attention and discussion from domestic and foreign culture circle. In 1990 he emigrated in USA, accepting the invitation of University of Wisconsin-Madison as honor artist. The present situation is individual artist, live and works in New York.
Exhibitions: Many personal art exhibition were held in important art organization like New Museum of Contemporary Art ,The Bronx Museum of Art, Elvehjem Museum of Art, North Dakota Museum, Albany University Museum,Joan Miro Foundation at Mallorca, National Gallery of Prague， Fukuoka Asian Art Museum. in 2001, one huge personal exhibition subjected as:” Play with Character：Xubin’s Art” in Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, Smithsonian Institution, and one review exhibition of “Xubin in Berlin” was held in Berlin National East Asian Art Museum in 2004.

2006, won the best facility prize or prize single of New England area between 2005-2006 issued by AICA, which is exhibited Davis Art Museum in America Wesleyan University. In the response of architecture Mr….., he host his person exhibit in the new hall of Suzhou Museum, his work “Stories behind:3” was enrolled in Guangzhou Biennale exhibition, Korea, and 1st Singapore Biennale exhibition, fresh work “Magic carpet” was exhibited there. Work〈Earth book：Xubin Workshop〉was exhibited in German Staatsgalerie Stuttgart. In 2007, graphic work with Chinese Calligraphy were exhibited in Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York . His fresh work 〈Earth Book〉was exhibited in MOMA though the interaction of new media. “The application of front, language and book spirit makes huge influences on the dialog and communication between Printing and art. Southern Graphics Council granted Xubing with” Lifetime Achievement of Printing Art”.

 

 

Jin Liqiang

 

 

Born 1942 in China, Jin Liqiang moved to Hong Kong in 1957. After spending ten years as apprentice and tailor, he took up design studies in applied design course at the Department of Extramural Studies, Chinese University of Hong Kong. From 1967, Kan started his career as designer, the awards he received had brought him to immediate prominence. In 1976, he founded his own design company, his works were highly appreciated and became an international renowned designer.

Jin has received numerous awards in both Hong Kong and international competitions. Among them include numerous awards in Creativity Show, New York; Best Design Corporate Identity, Asian Advertising Award in '91 & '94; Gold Award, International Art Competition, Los Angeles; CLIO Award, Finalist Certificates, New York; Best work in "Applied Typography 6" Yearbook, Japan; Gold Award in Mercury Award, New York; Grand Winner - Best of International in Galaxy Awards, New York; numerous CA Awards, New York; 1st Prize in the 1st International Computer Art Biennale in Rzeszów, Poland; In Hong Kong, he was the first designer elected as one of the "Ten Outstanding Young Persons" in 1979; the only designer to receive the Urban Council Design Grand Award (Best Designer of the Exhibition) in 1984; Artist of the Year Award - Designer of the Year 1991, "Men of the Nineties" in 1992, Outstanding Achievements Award 1998, Honour of Bronze Bauhinia Star in 1999 and 2000 Outstanding Artists and Designers of the 20th Century. Jin's outstanding achievement was further recognized as he was invited by the China Central Television (CCTV) for a feature story in 2002.

Jin's accomplishments have earned him international publicity through exposures in prominent publications such as the special features in IDEA magazine, Creation magazine, Ryuko Tsushin magazine and Morisawa Quarterly, Japan; Graphis, Switzerland; NOVUM, Germany; and Communication Arts, U.S.A., etc. In 1993 he was the only Chinese selected by Japan's prestigious design magazine IDEA as one of the 100 World's Graphic Designers; and is the first Chinese to be included in Who's Who in Graphic Design of Switzerland. He also has design work collections in Staatliches Museum of Muchen in Germany; Museum fur Kunst und Gewerbe, Hamburg; Museum of Decorative Art in Denmark; University of Connecticut and the Union des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, Hong Kong Heritage Museum, Suntory Design Museum and Ogaki Poster Museum in Japan.

Jin takes an active role in educating and promoting art and design as a profession. He lectures frequently in Hong Kong and overseas institutions, acting as advisors for associations and adjudicates at competitions. He is now the Fellow Member of Hong Kong Designers Association, Honorary Ambassador of International Trademark Center, Belgium; Member of Alliance Graphique Internationale; Vice-Editor for Chinese Design Yearbook, China; Guest Professor of Central Institute of Fine Arts, Beijing; Guest Professor of Southern Yangtze University, School of Design; Guest Professor of Xi’an Art Institute; Guest Professor of Guilin University of Electronic Technology; Guest Professor of Kunshan University of Technology, Taiwan; Advisor of the Leisure & Cultural Services Department and Honorary Advisor of Hong Kong Museum of Art. Kan has written more than ten books on design principles, which included : "Applied Two-Dimensional Design"; "The Art of Graphic Design"; and "Sentiments and Harmony, Selected Posters By Kan Tai-keung", etc. He has completed editing a series of books on "Graphic Design in China". His significance and influential role has won him a distinctive position in the design world.             

In 2003, Jin was invited by the Shantou University to assist in organizing the Cheung Kong School of Art and Design, and was employed as the Dean of the School. This further him to participate in the reformation of the China modern design education.
