Academic Committee Conference of “Chinese Character Design and
Research Centre” in Founder Mansion in Shangdi, the Academic
Committee of the Center was composed of demoticists,
caligraphers, graphic designers, font
designer,etc.

On
April 26,2006, Founder Electronics Co.,Ltd. held the First
Academic Committee Conference by “Chinese Character
Design and Research Centre” in
Founder
Mansion
in Shangdi. Director of Founder Electronics Liu Xiao-kun,
General Manager of the Printing Art Research and Development
Cender under Founder Electronics Co.,Ltd.Dong Ying presented
this conference. The Committee of the Center was composed of
demoticists, caligraphers, graphic designers, font
designers,etc. As the main undertaker of the work in the
Centre, Founder Electronics Co.,Ltd. deeply felt the weight of
responsibility, and the leaders attending the conference
expressed that they would try their utmost to do a bettter job
of the Center, and make a due contribution to the development
of the design of Chinese character font and various
nationality word fonts that has a history of 5000 years in the
era of computer.
From
pictographic character of pictographs to seal character,from
clerical character to regular script and Song typeface,
Chinese character has gone through a long history of more than
5000 years. From 1960 to 1963, Shanghai Printing Research
Institute Font Designing Office, Character 605 Factory,
Shanghai Mould Factory,Beijing Xinhua Mould Factory were set
up one after another, and formed a font research and creation
team with the workers of caligraphy and art as well as the old
lettering workers as the backbone. With the development of the
lase phototypesetting technology,Chinese character development
has experienced a revolutionary change and said farewell to
the age of “lead and fire” of type composition that has been
continously used for nearly 200 years and entered into the era
of computer word stock. While it has brought great revolution
for the Chinese charactr, the occurance of computer word stock
has also brought problem. The above mould factories and some
font designing office closed one after another, a large
quantity of personnel of font research and design were drained
away, and font design nearly became a craft that was well on
the way to be lost. Facing this situation, Founder resolutely
undertook the heavy responsibilty of font design and research,
and have written a splendid stroke for the publishing cause of
China.
After
its establishment, the Chinese Character Font Design and
Research Center had rapidly made a work plan for the year
2006, which included the contents in the aspects as how to
make Chinese character go towards the world, how to embody the
charm of Chinese character in the era of computer, and the
relationship between Chinese character and cities,etc. During
the conference the experts gave out the sincere opinions and
suggestioins to the plan.
There
are reasons to believe that, under the guide of policy by the
Language and Words Information Management Department under the
Ministry of Education, using the advantage of word and
information processing technology in the Computre Technology
Research Institute of
Beijing University, meanwhile using the advantage of
font design in Founder Electronics Co., Ltd., and combining
the rich experience of some demoticists,
designers,caligraphers, the Chinese Character Font Design and
Research Center will assume the responsibilty of the design
and research of Chinese character, will continously provide
the society with new fonts to meet the demand of the society
for computer word stock, and continue to bring Chinese
character culture with 5000 years’ history to a great height
of development in the epoch of
internet.
